As a teenager she was a badminton player in the national championships, but she ended her career in the sport to become a fashion model. Padukone has Mangalorean origins and speaks Konkani as her native language. Her lineage hails from Padukone village in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District in Karnataka, the Indian state. Karnataka, India. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend, who retired in the late 1980s. The mother of her daughter, who worked for a travel agency also comes from this area.
